Mary Ellen Mark

\

Mary Ellen Mark was born March 20th, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is an American photographer, known for her images which fall between social photojournalism and portraiture. She mainly took pictures of social events going on, and of the problems in society. During the 1940's, the main things going on were poverty and lack of resources and education. You see young kids smoking, poor people and just a lot of teens doing drugs. She also used the rule of thirds in many of her photos. I chose to put these photos in my article because I feel they have a lot of imp-act in her career. That is what she chose to share. They all have some sort of young person or someone smoking, it also shows poverty in the background.
